Taiwan is a "glittering secret isle" which "seduces travellers with its diverse temptations", declares Traveller. You'll begin your discovery the little-known Asian island state with a sightseeing tour of the capital, Taipei, followed by a visit to the bustling Huahsi Night Market. Next stop on your tour is Sun Moon Lake, where you can admire the mountain scenery from the comfort of a gentle boat ride, and visit Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Monastery, one of the top-rated attractions in Taiwan on TripAdvisor. Kenting National Park, known for its white-sand beaches, caves, coral reefs and spectacular mountain scenery, is next on your tour. A night will also be spent in Taitung County in a hot-spring-and-spa hotel.

You'll then travel along the coast through Taiwan’s last remaining unspoiled region, the East Coast National Scenic Area, before reaching Taroko National Park and Taroko Gorge. With its "marble-walled canyons, lush vegetation and mountainous landscape", Taroko "really puts the formosa (beautiful) in Ilha Formosa", raves Lonely Planet.
